Classification and selection of ultrasonic flow meter

There are still many types of ultrasonic flow meters. Let's analyze what kind of environment each flowmeter is suitable for according to different usage conditions.

1. Classification of ultrasonic flow meters

Ultrasonic flowmeter is composed of ultrasonic transducer, electronic circuit, flow display and accumulation system. The transducer generates ultrasonic output under the action of electrical signals, and can convert the received ultrasonic signals into electrical signals.

According to the installation method, the protable ultrasonic flow meter can be divided into four types: external clip type, internal stick type, plug-in type and portable type. The transducer of the external clip-on ultrasonic flowmeter is fixed outside the pipeline with a special couplant, and the pipeline is not damaged during installation, and the propagation path of the sound wave passes through the pipeline wall; for the internal-mounted ultrasonic flowmeter, the transducer is welded and bolted. It is fixed on the inner wall of the flow channel in other ways; the plug-in ultrasonic flow meter uses a special drilling device to make holes in the pipeline under test, and the flowmeter probe is inserted and installed from the outside of the flow channel through the drilling hole, which solves the problem of the external clamp ultrasonic flow meter. When measuring thick scaled pipes, it is difficult to receive signals and measure signal attenuation for a long time; portable ultrasonic flow meters are suitable for mobile measurement and are often used for flow calibration.

According to the type of channel structure, ultrasonic flowmeters can be divided into two types: single-channel ultrasonic flowmeters and multi-channel ultrasonic flowmeters. The monophonic ultrasonic flow meter is to install a pair of transducers on the measured flow channel to form an ultrasonic channel. The multi-channel ultrasonic flowmeter is to install multiple pairs of transducers on the flow channel to form multiple ultrasonic channels, and the results of each channel are combined to obtain the flow rate.

2. Selection of ultrasonic flow meter

For the measurement of flow in small and medium-diameter pipes and channels that do not require high measurement accuracy, a single-channel ultrasonic flowmeter is generally used; for the measurement of flow in large-diameter pipes and pipes with complex flow distribution, multi-channel ultrasonic flowmeters are generally used. flowmeter. Multi-channel ultrasonic flowmeters are generally used when ultrasonic flowmeters are used in hydropower stations to measure turbine flow.

In the hydropower station, when measuring the flow rate of the unit passing through the machine and the total flow of the power station, it is advisable to use the internal sticking type or the external plugging type ultrasonic flowmeter. The diameter of the penstock in front of the volute of the hydro-generator unit of the hydropower station is generally larger. For the low cost ultrasonic flow meter arranged on the penstock, if the installation position is in the buried part of the penstock (non-exposed flow channel), the ultrasonic flowmeter adopts the inner sticker. The transducer and cable pipe are clamped on the inner wall of the penstock and fixed by welding; if the installation position is in the open pipe part of the penstock (exposed flow channel), it can be combined with factors such as the diameter of the penstock, accuracy requirements, and installation conditions. Consider plug-in or in-line ultrasonic flow meters. In order to facilitate installation, D should be at least 1.6m when using an internal stick ultrasonic flowmeter, and at least 0.8m when using an external plug-in ultrasonic flowmeter.
